About Me

Mary J. Henderson, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at Morgan State University, a Historically Black College or University (HBCU), in Baltimore, Maryland. Currently, she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in adolescent and young adult literature, popular culture, and contemporary diasporic American literature. She has published articles and book chapters on the representations of counter-storytelling (CRT) strategies, Black Feminisms, and the intersection of ethnicity and (dis)ability in adolescent historical fiction novels. Other research publications explore whiteness ideologies in young adult dystopian novels, gender performance in graphic novels, and “post-racial” ideologies in a comic book series.
