About Me

As researcher and scholar, I specialise in the sociology of education with particular emphasis in research on deaf people’s life worlds. I have taught, researched, published and disseminated scholarship in the field of the sociology of deaf studies, education and auto-ethnography. My research focuses on deaf education particularly in the areas of language policy and teaching methodology and deaf people’s experiences of culture, religion, society, employment. I am interested in social justice, equality, human rights, language rights, identity politics, solidarity and the principles of bilingualism and multiculturalism as well as inclusion. I am particularly interested in auto-ethnography both as a research method and genre of writing.
