In line with our 2025 Symposium theme (80 Years Later: Reflecting on the Legacies of World War II), the University of Pennsylvania Journal of International Law (“JIL”) invites current law students, academics, and legal professionals to submit their scholarship for an online issue dedicated to exploring contemporary conflicts. This may include, but is not limited to, scholarship focused on conflicts in North Africa, the Middle East, or in Eastern Europe.
In response to rapidly developing global conflicts, this issue produces a timely forum for intellectual and ethical inquiry. This could include a discussion of domestic and international law within the context of these conflicts, or the impact of war on human rights and governmental stability. Most importantly, JIL particularly encourages authors from communities, ethnicities, or countries engaged in or impacted by contemporary conflicts to contribute their expertise to relevant discourse.

This sounds like an exciting and important event! The intersection of law and social media is a very hot topic right now, especially given how fast technology is evolving compared to legal frameworks. It's great to see the symposium diving into these issues, especially with a view to addressing issues such as flawed algorithms and civil rights concerns.

As someone deeply committed to addressing societal issues and empowering marginalized communities, I find this call for scholarship both timely and essential. The opportunity to reflect on the legacies of World War II while addressing contemporary conflicts is a critical step in understanding how history shapes our present struggles. By encouraging voices from affected regions and communities, this issue amplifies perspectives that are often overlooked in legal and international discourse. It is through such inclusive dialogue that we can hope to foster meaningful solutions to complex global conflicts
