The War on Drugs 50 Years Later: Where We Are and Where We’re Going

In June of 1971, President Nixon declared a “War on Drugs,” suppressing drug channels and increasing the criminalization of drug use, possession, and supply. Fifty years later, this “all- out offensive” continues. Yet, not only has drug use since increased, but so too has violence, conflict, and corruption which has ultimately driven systematic racism, mass incarceration, social marginalization, healthcare adversity, among many other negative institutional outcomes.

This Symposium will consider a broad range of papers that address state and/or federal drug- related legislation, policy implications and reformation, the opioid crisis, marijuana and cannabinoids, health treatment services, Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, and many others.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Interested individuals should submit an abstract (or full-length article) to Chief Symposium Editor Cory Greenleaf @ cory.greenleaf@unhlaw.unh.edu. The Law Review will choose four submissions to present at the Fall Symposium on October 29, 2021. Final essays of approximately 20 pages will be published in the Law Review’s Annual Symposium Issue in Spring 2022.
