Really interesting story about education in Finland: the county is considering trading teaching subjects for teaching about phenomena.
According to the article, a "phenomena approach" to teaching the European Union would involve learning languages, history, politics, and geography. Advocates of this approach say its advantages lie in exploring things through the way that they are interconnected. This method is supposed to avoid the criticisms that students often give to classes: "Why is this important? Why or how would I ever use this?"
Predictably this is being opposed by many teachers in Finland. What do you think? Can you imagine having being taught this way? Would you ever want to be?
