Poverty as a Policy Choice: Pandemic Responses in the Trump Era

The Georgetown Journal on Poverty Law & Policy at Georgetown University Law Center invites original submissions for publication in Volume 28, Issue II (our Winter issue). The journal is seeking timely articles about the poverty-related impact of the COVID-19 pandemic that engage with the theme of “Poverty as A Policy Choice: Pandemic Responses in the Trump Era.” The themed issue will consider the broadly defined intersection of poverty law, policy, and COVID-19. The journal is interested in submissions that address this subject from numerous perspectives.

Potential topic areas may include but are not limited to:

·   Health disparities. Topics may include a discussion of the impact of COVID on healthcare options; disproportionate treatment for low income communities in public health crises; a discussion on the mental health of individuals experiencing compounding economic & racial crises; the role of underlying health conditions in exacerbating the impact of COVID-19 in low income communities.

·   Housing Insecurity. Topics may include a discussion of the CARES Act; eviction moratoriums; the prolonged nature of the pandemic and its impact on affordable housing/homelessness; post pandemic opportunities to make housing a legal right.

·   Labor & Employment. Topics may include a discussion on the impact of COVID-19 on low-wage and/or essential workers; hazard pay for essential workers, the impact of COVID-19 on the FLSA and expanded protections for low-income workers; COVID-19’s impact on informal economies.

·   2020 Presidential Election. Topics may include poverty law & policy under a new presidential administration or a second Trump term; federal spending priorities that may reduce poverty; voter disenfranchisement; election administration during COVID-19; 2020 Census.
