SPRING 2026 SYMPOSIUM

From the Ground Up: Self-Determination & Local Autonomy in the Fight Against Poverty

GJPLP is excited to announce that we will host our bi-annual Poverty Law Symposium on February 20, 2026. This year’s timely topic is From the Ground Up: Self-Determination & Local Autonomy in the Fight Against Poverty. The symposium will bring together scholars, legal practitioners, community organizers, and individuals with lived experience for a day-long conference in Washington, DC. The Symposium will also be accompanied by the publication of a Symposium-specific issue of the Journal.

GJPLP invites you to submit a piece to be considered for publication. GJPLP welcomes all methodologies and seeks innovative approaches to poverty law and policy in its consideration of law review articles, case studies, case comments, and narrative submissions for publication.

For our forthcoming Symposium Issue, we are most interested in topics such as: organizing resistance to authoritarianism; promoting community agency and self-determination; resource allocation and carceral infrastructure; access to public benefits (e.g. SNAP); policy and administrative actions that direct blame toward or disenfranchise low-income and marginalized groups; immigration enforcement; migrant workers and labor protections; grassroots and movement lawyering; advancing food sovereignty and similar strategies for mitigating root causes of poverty; social determinants of health and built environment; and other topics in alignment with the Symposium theme.

Content Requirements:

Length: GJPLP strongly prefers articles that do not exceed 25,000 words, including text, footnotes, and appendices.

Formatting: Submissions should be typed in 12-point font size and double-spaced with one-inch margins on all sides. Footnotes should be single-spaced.

Citations: Footnotes should conform to the most recent version of The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation, published by the Harvard Law Review Association.

Submission Options: Pieces should be submitted via Scholastica or email at lawjplp@georgetown.edu. For accessibility purposes, please submit both .doc and .pdf versions.

All submissions should include the author's contact information (telephone number and email address), an abstract with the title and summary of the piece, and a CV for all authors.

For assistance submitting an article or questions or comments about the Symposium and corresponding Symposium Issue, please contact GJPLP’s Symposium Editor, Del Ivey (dci6@georgetown.edu).

PRIORITY DEADLINE: December 31, 2025. Submissions received after the priority deadline will be considered on a rolling basis.

Please Note: GJPLP reserves the right, at any time, to accept or reject any article, note, or comment, outright or conditionally.
