Tourism in Marine Environments (TIME) is a refereed, interdisciplinary journal that provides a forum for tourism topics specifically related to tourism management issues in marine settings. This Special Issue will provide research that focuses on stakeholder relationships between cruise lines, ports of call/homeports, residents and others in terms of developing cruise tourism. This may include economic impacts, power dynamics between interested groups, and resident agency. Such a Special Issue is a response in part to the number of articles received by the Journal that cover this topic. While case studies may be suitable, they must have application to the broader issues and not be limited to pure description. Alternatively, a short case study may be suitable as a research note.

The Special Issue will be TIME’s third special issue devoted to research on cruise tourism. This issue specifically seeks empirical research focusing on impacts and issues around cruise ships, cruise passengers, and/or cruise tourism, and theoretical articles looking at issues or challenges around measuring impacts and political dynamics. Papers on other topics may be considered if there is sufficient space, however an essential element of all submissions is there be a critical or analytical perspective.

Submissions based on empirical research will be favoured over descriptive or review papers, but submissions on any cruise tourism related topics are welcome.
