The Berkeley Journal of Entertainment and Sports Law (BJESL) is now accepting submissions for its May 2022 volume. 

BJESL welcomes articles from professors, practitioners, and students on legal topics related to the entertainment and sports industries. 

BJESL’s editors invite prospective authors to submit full-length articles, case comments, and notes via Scholastica or by email at bjesl-submissions@berkeley.edu. Articles are considered for publication on a rolling basis but BJESL's editors generally aim to select articles by the end of September for publication the following May.

Submission Requirements

  • Submissions must be on legal topics relevant to the sports and/or entertainment industries such as copyright, trademark, First Amendment, right to privacy, music, antitrust, unfair competition, and contracts.
  • Submissions must be previously unpublished.
  • Submissions must deal with novel issues and may not be substantively similar to articles published elsewhere.
  • Submissions must be less than 35,000 words (including footnotes) and an accompanying abstract of not more than 250 words.
  • Submissions should be submitted as a Microsoft Word document.
  • Submissions must be written in English.
  • Text should be double-spaced and footnotes should be single-spaced.
  • Citations should conform to the 21st edition of The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation.
  • Authors should be prepared to supply any cited sources upon request.
  • Submissions must include an abstract and a resume/CV for each author that includes their contact information (name, email address, and phone number).
