The Thurgood Marshall Law Review at Texas Southern University School of Law is now accepting submissions for Volume 50. We invite scholars, practitioners, and legal professionals to submit original manuscripts offering innovative and thoughtful analysis on any area of law. We welcome submissions that advance critical discourse, promote justice, and contribute to the development of legal scholarship.

Submission Guidelines

How to Submit:
All manuscripts must be submitted electronically via Scholastica. Submissions must be in a format easily convertible to Microsoft Word; Microsoft Word is the preferred format. PDF submissions will not be accepted.

Submission Requirements:

  • Citations must conform to The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (21st ed. 2020) and The Greenbook: Texas Rules of Form (15th ed. 2022).

  • cover sheet must accompany each submission and include:

    • Author’s full name

    • Mailing address

    • Email address

    • Phone number

    • Word count

    • Page length

    • A short description of the manuscript’s legal topic

  • Manuscripts must include a Table of Contents and Table of Authorities.

  • A minimum of 100 footnotes is required. Endnotes are not accepted.

  • Footnote sources must include at least:

    • 5 law review articles

    • 5 book sources

    • 5 case law citations

    • 5 sources of the author’s choosing

Length Requirements:

  • Manuscripts must contain a minimum of 15 full pages of substantive text (excluding tables and cover materials).

  • There is no strict word count requirement; however, submissions approximating 20,000 words are preferred to maintain the quality and depth of scholarship.

Formatting Guidelines:

  • Body text: Single-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman, fully justified, 1-inch margins.

  • Footnotes: Single-spaced, 10-point Times New Roman, left-justified, 1-inch margins.

Expedited Review:
We accept expedited review requests via Scholastica.

Publication Offers:
All publication decisions will be communicated through Scholastica. Authors will have 72 hours to accept any offer of publication.
