The LSU Law Journal for Social Justice and Policy is pleased to announce its Call for Papers for the upcoming symposium on Education in America. The Symposium will take place in a virtual format in November of 2023.

The right to education is a fundamental human right. Though there is no explicit federal right to education, states generally grant public education to their students. The Fourteenth Amendment to the US Constitution serves to protect the recipients of this state benefit. The Supreme Court’s recent holdings in the education sphere have called into question what a public right to education does and ought to mean in the US.

Topics, themes, and issues:

·      Affirmative Action; including the recent Supreme Court decision in Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. v. President and Fellows of Harvard College

·      The function of Religion in Public Schools; The effects of Carson v. Makin

·      Federal or State Student Loan Repayment; including the recent Supreme Court decision in Biden v. Nebraska Department of Education v. Brown

·      Educational Reform across the nation and in Louisiana

·      LGBTQIA+ and Parental Rights in Education; Analyzing Florida HP 1557 “Parental Rights in Education” (balancing student, teacher, and parent rights)

·      Education and Undocumented Students, including but not limited to “Dreamers”; a policy analysis of the UK’s High Potential Individual (HPI) Visa on the US

The Journal is excited to partner with you and welcomes your abstract submissions.
