The Seton Hall Legislative Journal is pleased to invite article proposals for its annual Symposium, which will be held on February 4, 2022. The event will be held in-person, subject to COVID-19 restrictions and CDC guidance, in Newark, New Jersey, but a virtual option will remain available for those who are unable to travel. The Symposium will highlight legal issues related to conflicts between the Controlled Substance Act and statewide cannabis legalization and aims to address concerns for equitable implementation of cannabis legalization.
The Seton Hall Legislative Journal will host selected authors to present their articles during an all-day Symposium, which will be open to the public. Authors will be assigned to panels to discuss their articles, followed by a brief question and answer period. The Symposium is intended to bring together law students, law faculty, lawyers, and judges from around the nation to discuss the future of cannabis law.
Submissions on the following topics are encouraged: impact on the criminal justice system; potential for record expungements, resentencing, and clemency; reparations; equity-focused distribution of funding; racial justice; economic justice; community reinvestment; Tribal Nation sovereignty; housing; banking; bankruptcy; RICO liability; immigration; other collateral consequences of the Controlled Substances Act. The editors actively seek diverse, intersectional viewpoints and innovative scholarly approaches that address timely issues. Although the Symposium is not a historical or comparative project, the editors welcome articles with historical or comparative features.
The Legislative Journal will choose submissions to present at the Symposium and subsequently publish. All selected articles, subject to fulfilling the draft requirements, will be published in the Seton Hall Legislative Journal’s third issue of Volume 46 in late spring of 2022.
The Call for Abstracts is open now and will close on October 15, 2021. Interested individuals should submit an abstract of roughly 500 words or a full article to the Symposium Editor, Jacqueline Davis, at Jacqueline.Davis@student.shu.edu.
