2020 has commenced in the midst of an Australian bushfire season unlike any other across eastern and southern Australia. Parts of the continent are also experiencing prolonged drought and heatwave, occasionally and spectacularly interrupted by heavy rain and destructive hail.

A sane person would question why we live in such a land. Researchers at La Trobe and Central Queensland universities delved into that very question with a study that compared community attitudes in the aftermath of multiple large fires between 2009 and 2015 with a follow up survey in 2017-18. In this issue the researchers report on why people choose to live on the urban-bush interface exposed to the constant threat of bushfire.

Read about this - and a lot more - in the January edition.
